Earth Fare grocery stores partnered with SPARC Design to address their aging flagship store in the Westgate Shopping Center of Asheville, North Carolina.  Considering a phased approach, the first phase goals focused on improving customer flow through the store and improving support areas for Earth Fare’s team members.  Sequencing of the project was important since the store had to remain open serving their customers through the duration of construction.

Improved support areas included new management offices and a new shipping/receiving area in the back of the store.  Special attention was needed to continue to allow for shipments while the new shipping/receiving addition was built in the former location of their old dock.  The new area provided enhanced clearances and heights as well as a new loading system to better handle large palettes.

On the customer side of the store, a new layout for their dairy and produce section was provided while integrating into the stores unique character.  The opportunity was also taken to update refrigerated cases and lighting to more energy efficient models.
