River Arts Dentistry
River Arts Dentistry is a 1,200 square foot tenant up-fit in the historic Glen Rock Hotel. We wanted to design a space that reflected the character of Asheville’s River Arts District, while simultaneously establishing a clean, professional dentist office environment. Despite the constraints of a narrow footprint within an existing building, we constructed an efficient, open floor plan that allows for distinctive approaches to the office workflow.
The program includes a reception and waiting area, four operatories, lab space, an office and a staff break room. It was our intent, as well as the owners, to blur the lines between public spaces and what is typically seen as the “back of house” programmatic elements of a dental practice. We created a unique openness between patient operatories and laboratory space to allow for transparency in the dental process, while at the same time providing patient privacy. As you walk from the entrance to the dental operatories, you follow a 10-foot tall, CNC-milled plywood wall with an abstract map of the River Arts District. This map wall houses storage and work counters, while functioning as a artistic installation that brings a visual distinctness to the space.
Interior finishes, lighting, and decor were fully coordinated with dental equipment by Forest Dental.
